Therapeutic riding is a unique combination of sport, recreation and education. Specially trained NARHA qualified instructors use their knowledge of disabilities to teach horsemanship skills to riders with varying ability levels. A typical therapeutic riding lesson involves safety on and around horses, warm up exercises, games and riding skills including equitation and obstacles. Increased balance, strength and self esteem are some of the benefits of this wonderful recreational activity.
All lessons are 1/2 hour group lessons of no more than three participants. We have 6 riding sessions each year and each session lasts 5 weeks. There are a limited amount of scholarships available each session. Our staff will evaluate each student and match their horse, tack and activity to their abilities. The minimum age for therapeutic riding is 4 years old. We do not hold general session mid-June through mid-August due to the heat.
All riders wear an ASTM-SEI approved helmet and use standard English or western tack or equipment specially adapted to their needs. Riders should wear long pants and closed toe shoes or boots.
